Oskaloosa--The Lady Statesmen soccer team took an early lead against Mount Mercy Wednesday, but failed to hold it as Penn fell 3-1 in Midwest Collegiate Conference play.
Penn (3-12-1, 1-4-1 MCC) claimed the initial advantage when Morgan Davis (Jr., Madera, Calif., Fresno City CC) scored unassisted at the 8:57 mark.
Despite outshooting the Mustangs 17-6 (5-2 in corner kicks), the Lady Statesmen could not keep their foes from putting goals in the back of the net at the 30th, 67th, and 81st minutes in the loss.
Victoria Schiebel (Mansfield, Texas, Mansfield HS) did not score, but the freshman still led all players with eight shots. Davis added six shots.
Kristen Dolen (So., Independence, Mo., William Chrisman HS) allowed the three goals with two saves, while Janna Carson (So., Idaho Falls, Idaho, Bonneville HS) relieved her in the waning minutes of the contest and did not face any shots.
