Oskaloosa--Two Penn men's soccer players were awarded for their efforts in 2008 as the all-Midwest Collegiate Conference men's soccer teams were announced today.

Midfielder Angel Contreras (Sr., Joliet, Ill., Joliet CC) and defender Fernando Sanchez (Sr., Baytown, Texas, Lee HS) both garnered honorable mentions as 29 players were recognized--14 first-teamers and 15 honorable mentions.

It is the third career honor for Sanchez (all honorable mentions) and the first for Contreras.

Contreras was one of the top offensive players for the Statesmen (8-8-2, 3-5 MCC) with two goals and one assist, ending his two-year Penn career with four goals and four assists.

Sanchez, the leader of the defensive unit, helped Penn to allow just 1.60 goals per game and a school-record eight shutouts. He was also a threat on the offensive end as he scored one goal with one assist this fall to conclude his four-year career with five goals and five assists.

Greg Lehman of St. Ambrose was named Player of the Year for the second year in a row, while Dino Ramic of Clarke garnered Newcomer of the Year laurels. Blair Reid of Grand View claimed the Coach of the Year award.
