The Statesmen (17-7, 2-0 MCC), who won 5-2 and 5-1, will meet the V-Hawks again tomorrow in a single nine-inning game at 1 p.m.
Jenner opened the day's scoring by clearing the fence in right-center with a solo shot in the first inning.
Penn then blew the game open with four more runs in the third frame, highlighted by a three-run home run by
Ramon Cabral (Sr., Antioch, Calif., Laney CC), bringing in Jenner and
Richie Hawley (Sr., Palmdale, Calif., Antelope Valley CC). Jenner singled home
Blake Willard (Jr., Tacoma, Wash., Green River CC) to start the scoring in the third inning.
Viterbo finally got on the board with two runs in the top of the fourth, but could not muster any more offense against
Micah Spencer (Sr., Modesto, Calif., Indiana State), who improved to 5-0 with the 5-2 win.
Spencer allowed two runs (both earned) on seven scattered hits in his fifth complete game of the season. He struck out six against just one walk.
Jenner led Penn at the plate by going 3-3 with two RBIs and two runs. Cabral, who was 1-2, finished with three RBIs and one run scored.
Jenner powered the Statesmen to the double dip sweep as he again left the park in the nightcap. With the game scoreless entering the bottom of the third frame, the junior pounded a delivery over the right field fence, also bringing home Hawley. It was Jenner's team-leading fifth home run of the season.
Alex Chavez (Sr., Culver City, Calif., LA Harbor CC), broke out of an 0-4 slump on the day midway through the second game and picked up his second-straight hit in the fourth inning, doubling to the center field fence, scoring both Willard and
Matt Casey (Sr., Palmdale, Calif., Antelope Valley CC). Willard led off the inning with a walk and Casey followed it by reaching on an error by the pitcher.
The V-Hawks scored their only run in the top of the sixth, but the Statesmen responded immediately when Casey crossed home plate off a V-Hawks' error on a ball hit by
Grant Grimmett (Jr., Rock Island, Ill., Carl Sandburg CC) and Penn held on for the 5-1 victory.
Joey Grant (Sr., Soquel, Calif., College of San Mateo) produced another impressive pitching performance for Penn as he allowed just one run (earned) on two hits in his third complete game of the campaign. The senior, who is now 3-1, struck out a season-high ten against three walks.
Jenner paced his squad with a 2-3 showing, including two RBIs and one run, while Chavez awoke from his offensive slumber to finish 2-4 with two RBIs. Casey scored a game-high two runs.
