Penn entered the final two rounds in eighth place out of nine teams, but played well enough to move up the standings at the par-72 La Crosse Country Club. The Lady Statesmen finished in sixth with a final 63-hole (3 1/2 rounds) score of 1398 (395-396-205-402).
St. Ambrose entered the spring with a 25-stroke lead and ended up more than doubling that advantage by tournament's end. The Queen Bees won the Championships at 1156 (326-338-172-329) to advance to the NAIA Women's Golf National Championships May 10-16 in Rapid City, S.D. Waldorf took runner-up honors at 1210 (347-342-173-348).
Ashford's Jordan Davis and St. Ambrose's Kelly Jansen both shot a 163 to tie for the lead in the fall. At the end of regulation Monday, the two were still tied as they both shot a 127 in the spring to finish at 290. Davis then defeated Jansen in a playoff to win medalist honors and earn the MCC's automatic individual berth to nationals.
Joining Davis and Jansen on the all-MCC Tournament team was Valeria Cogollo of Waldorf at 291, Mallory Lovik of Waldorf at 295, and Caitlin Childers and Ashlie Justice, both of St. Ambrose, at 298.
Threats of poor weather halted Sunday's third round after all golfers had played nine holes. By that point, Penn had already passed Iowa Wesleyan and Clarke. Mount Mercy was too far ahead for the Lady Statesmen to catch, however, so the team settled for sixth place in their first season of competition since being reinstated as a sponsored sport.
Dena Hugen (So., Oskaloosa, Oskaloosa HS) entered the spring in tenth place at 175 and that is exactly the position in which she finished the tournament. The sophomore shot 45 on Sunday and 90 on Monday to tally a final score of 310 (90-85-45-90).
Mayci Rule (Fr., Idaho Falls, Idaho, Skyline HS) moved up one spot from 14th to 13th as she finished at 317 (87-95-47-88).
Kolby Baetsle (Jr., Fremont, Sigourney HS) tallied a 29th-place finish at 377 (104-102-58-113), while
Janna Carson (Jr., Idaho Falls, Idaho, Bonneville HS) was 33rd at 394 (114-114-55-111).
Penn concluded its spring season with the Championships.
