Dena Hugen finished in the top ten in six of seven tournaments this year
Oskaloosa--Dena Hugen (So., Oskaloosa, Oskaloosa HS) had a tremendous first collegiate campaign and her efforts earned her a spot on the 2009 all-Midwest Collegiate Conference women's golf teams that were announced Monday.
Hugen was one of nine players named to the honorable-mention squad, while five players garnered first-team recognition.
Kelly Jansen of St. Ambrose was named MCC Player of the Year, while Mike Orfitelli of St. Ambrose was tabbed as MCC Coach of the Year.
Hugen owned an 87.3 stroke average over 11 1/2 18-hole rounds of competition between last fall and this spring. The sophomore had six top-ten finishes out of seven tournaments.
She highlighted her campaign by breaking three school records in a great showing at the St. Ambrose Invitational in September. Hugen set the nine-hole (34), 18-hole (76), and 36-hole (166) school records at the tournament.
Hugen was named MCC Player of the Week on April 14.
