Helton was named to the Second-Team All-American squad for the second such honor of her career. She earned first-team laurels as a sophomore in 2008.
The Midwest Collegiate Conference Player of the Year helped Penn to a 40-18 overall record this spring, including a 28-4 mark that secured the regular season crown. It was the Lady Statesmen's fourth league crown in the last eight years.
Helton led Penn in numerous offensive categories, including owning a .412 batting average with 12 home runs and 61 RBIs. She had a total of 75 hits with 37 runs scored.
Helton struck out just seven times in 182 at bats and owned five hitting streaks of five games or more, including a season-best nine-game streak to end the regular season.
She had 23 multiple-hit showings, including a season-best four base knocks against Saint Xavier (Ill.) on March 14. The junior recorded a season-high six RBIs against Mount Mercy on April 23.
Meghan Tomlinson of Grand View was the MCC's only other representative on the All-American teams, collecting honorable-mention status.
Amanda Howard of Oklahoma City was named the NAIA's Player of the Year, while Tory Ferreira of California Baptist garnered the NAIA's Pitcher of the Year recognition.
