The men's and women's bowling teams will begin competition in October
Oskaloosa--William Penn University bowling coach Ammon Bennett has announced the recruiting classes for the inaugural bowling teams that will begin collegiate competition this winter.

The men's team has a projected squad of 21 members, while the women's program has 13 projected student-athletes on its roster.

The top five recruits from Coach Bennett's Statesmen program own scoring averages over 215, while the top five female bowlers hold averages over 200.

"The men's team has come together very well for us, especially over the last month," Bennett said. "We have been able to pick up three bowlers that individually average over 220."

"Although these bowlers will experience different oil patterns than they are used to and initially will see a slight drop in pin count, I believe that we are talented enough to adjust to this and will quickly see those averages rise," Bennett added.

According to Bennett, the women will also be very competitive.

"I think this is a good start for a brand new women's program and these bowlers should allow us to compete very well in our first season of competition," Bennett said.

Bennett has scheduled ten tournaments for the programs' first campaign with the first competition on October 3-4 at the Hammer Midwest Collegiate Tournament in Wauwatosa, Wis. The teams will travel together and with a strong cumulative season, they could earn a spot at the regional and national events in late March and early April.

Both teams will compete within the United States Bowling Congress (USBC). The USBC is the largest collegiate bowling organization and features schools from the NCAA, NAIA, and NJCAA divisions.
