Oskaloosa--William Penn University co-men's golf coach
Wade Steinlage has announced the signing of
Geoff Dammann to a letter of intent to attend the University this fall and compete for the men's golf program.
Dammann, the son of Douglas and Laurie Dammann, is a native of Wyoming, Iowa and recently graduated from Midland HS.
Dammann is a two-time state tournament qualifier, earning First-Team All-State honors as a junior. He tied for 13th place as a junior and tied for 24th place as a senior, both in Class 1A. He was a member of the first-team all-state tournament squad during his junior campaign.
A 13-time medalist in his career, Dammann earned runner-up honors 11 times as well. Team captain twice, he won the sectional tournament as a junior and senior and owns the school's nine-hole record with a 34 this past spring.
Dammann competed on the Telegraph Herald Junior Golf Tour three years, winning the title after his junior season.
He has recorded several scores under par, including a lifetime nine-hole low of 32 at his home course of Little Bear Golf Course (par 36) and an 18-hole low of 67 also at Little Bear (par 72). Away from his home links, he has produced a score of two-under 34 at Lowden GC and one-under 71 at Saddleback Ridge GC.
A tremendous student as well, Dammann is a member of the National Honor Society, was an "A" Honor Roll student, and was recognized on the Governor's Scholar program. He was Salutatorian for his graduating class and earned the Wyoming Telephone Company Scholar and Wendell Wilkie Scholar awards.
Dammann participated at the State Speech competition, was a member of the State Future Problem Solving team, and helped his team to the Big East Quiz Bowl championship.
A participant at American Legion Boys State as a junior, Dammann has also given back to his community as a volunteer. Most notably he helped the Wyoming City Council with a water project survey in addition to being an umpire for youth baseball and assisting with tournaments and fundraisers held at Little Bear GC.
"Geoff is a great kid and will be a very nice addition to our squad here at William Penn," Steinlage said. "He is small, but his credentials are big. He can play at this level and once he begins to practice every day, his scores will really drop. He is the type of kid that will work hard in everything he does, on and off the course."
