York, Neb.--For the first time in school history, two Statesmen players posted hat tricks in the same game as the Penn men's soccer team blew out York (Neb.) 7-0 in non-conference play Sunday.

Nik Rule
(Sr., Idaho Falls, Idaho, Skyline HS) and Vince Beseau (Sr., Florissant, Mo., Hazelwood Central HS) each tallied three goals as Penn improves to 2-0 for the first time since 2006 (eventually 3-0).

Rule opened the day's scoring quickly as he put one in the back of the net unassisted just 2:10 into the afternoon. He added another unassisted goal just 111 seconds later at the 4:01 mark to make it 2-0.

Beseau then took over with goals at the 18:53, 48:26, and 51:17 marks to push the advantage to 5-0. Rule tallied assists on Beseau's first and third goals, while the second score was unassisted.

Rule concluded his day with his third goal at the 54:06 point with an assist coming from Beseau. The senior's eight points (3 G, 2 A) tie for the fourth-most in a single game in school history, while Beseau's seven points (3 G, 1 A) is good for sixth on the list.

The scoring ended with Brian Smith (Sr., Joliet, Ill., Joliet CC) getting his first goal of 2009 off a pass from Dexter Tobie (Sr., Joliet, Ill., Joliet CC) at the 81:52 mark.

Penn was extremely opportunistic Sunday as it had just 17 shots in the contest, while limiting the Panthers to only seven shots. Rule had six shots and Beseau finished with four shots. Brandon Wood (Sr., Smithfield, Utah, Iowa Western CC) managed two shots as well.

Tadeo Cavazos (Sr., Baytown, Texas, Lee HS) recorded three saves in his second-straight shutout of 2009.

Next: Penn returns to Oskaloosa for its home opener Wednesday as it plays host to Calumet-St. Joseph (Ind.) at 4 p.m.
