Oskaloosa--The Penn men's soccer team failed to take advantage of home field advantage as it tied Calumet-St. Joseph (Ind.) 2-2 in non-conference action Wednesday.

The Statesmen (2-0-1) outshot the Crimson Wave 26-20, but missed several golden scoring opportunities.

Calumet-St. Joseph took an early lead, but Penn rebounded with a goal of its own at the 25:45 mark when Matt Saner (Sr., West Plains, Mo., Neosho CC) scored off a pass from Nik Rule (Sr., Idaho Falls, Idaho, Skyline HS). The goal is the first for Saner in his two-year Penn career, while the assist is Rule's third in 2009.

The visitors broke the tie in the 52nd minute and Penn faced that one-goal deficit for most of the second half until Vince Beseau (Sr., Florissant, Mo., Hazelwood Central HS) pounded a shot home off a pass from Jamie Gibbons (Sr., West Des Moines, Iowa Western CC) at the 86:20 point. The goal is the fourth for Beseau, tying Rule for the team lead.

Neither team scored in the final three-plus minutes of regulation, sending Penn to its second overtime in three games this season.

Although the Statesmen had numerous chances in the extra periods, none of their shots found the back of the net.

Rule led Penn with ten shots, while Beseau finished with six shots. Saner, Jacob Plocher (Sr., West Plains, Mo., West Plains HS), and Brandon Nicholson (Fr., Cedar Falls, Cedar Falls HS) added two shots apiece.

Tadeo Cavazos (Sr., Baytown, Texas, Lee HS) posted a career-high 14 saves in the contest.
