Grinnell--The Statesmen and Lady Statesmen cross country teams continued their season at the Grinnell Les Duke Invitational Saturday.

Neither the men nor the women competed as a team as NCAA Division II Truman State (Mo.) swept the crowns with 49 points on the men's side and 44 points on the women's side.

Brandon Nicholson (Fr., Cedar Falls, Cedar Falls HS) topped the men on the 8K course at Oakland Acres Golf Course by placing 102nd overall in a time of 29:45.

Jordan Letzring (Jr., Alta, Alta HS) was next in 129th place in a time of 30:43, while Josh Roudabush (Jr., Brooklyn, BGM HS) was 154th in a time of 31:46 and Donovan DeVore (So., Wilton, Wilton HS) was 188th in a time of 35:03.

Zack Schrock (So., Urbandale, Colfax-Mingo HS), who was 207th in a time of 38:32, rounded out the men's times.

Vanessa Cortes (Sr., Fresno, Calif., Fresno City CC) paced the women on the 6K course as she finished 158th overall in a time of 28:57.

Jessica Bixler (Jr., Oskaloosa, Oskaloosa HS) was next in 178th place in a time of 29:56, while Melisa Wink (So., Brookfield, Ill., Lyons Township HS) rounded out the Lady Statesmen's results with a 181st-place finish in a time of 30:09.

Next: The Penn squads have a few weeks off before their next competition. The Statesmen and Lady Statesmen are next in action Friday, October 2 in Des Moines for the Grand View Viking Invitational.
