Jacob Plocher tallied Penn's only goal of the day, his first of 2009
Oskaloosa--For the second game in a row, the Penn men's soccer team was unable to hold onto a first half lead in falling 2-1 to Midland Lutheran (Neb.) in non-conference action Sunday.

The Statesmen (2-2-1) played very even with the Warriors all afternoon, losing the shots battle just 15-12.

Jacob Plocher (Sr., West Plains, Mo., West Plains HS) finally put his team on the board first when he scored off a pass from Nik Rule (Sr., Idaho Falls, Idaho, Skyline HS) in the 30th minute. The goal is the first for Plocher this fall, while the assist is Rule's team-leading fourth of 2009.

Penn held tight to that 1-0 advantage through halftime. Unfortunately, the second half was controlled mostly by visiting Midland Lutheran as the Warriors capitalized on a pair of scoring opportunities in the 50th and 82nd minutes to steal the win away from the Statesmen.

Plocher finished with a squad-best four shots, while Rule tallied three shots in the loss. Cory Andrews (Fr., Coralville, Iowa City HS) was also productive offensively with two shots.

A great defensive effort by Tadeo Cavazos (Sr., Baytown, Texas, Lee HS) between the pipes was wasted as the senior made several terrific saves, tallying nine in all.

Next: Penn remains in Oskaloosa for its only game next week as the Statesmen open Midwest Collegiate Conference action against Grand View Saturday at 7 p.m.
