Indianola--The Penn women's soccer team fell behind early and simply could not make up enough ground against their hosts in a 3-1 loss to Simpson in non-conference play Wednesday.

The Lady Statesmen (3-3) gave up goals in the 12th and 39th minutes to trail 2-0 at the break.

The Storm (3-4) added an insurance goal in the second minute of the second half to cruise to victory.

One game removed from serving as the team's goalkeeper, Lauren Terrell (So., Chandler, Ariz., Chandler HS) returned to her traditional forward position and scored the lone Lady Statesmen goal at the 68:55 mark.  The goal was her second of 2009.  Sophie Duke (Jr., Coventry, England, Warwickshire College) assisted on the goal, her first of the year.

Penn was only outshot 16-12, including an 8-7 difference in shots on goal, but failed to put their attempts past Simpson goalkeeper Jessica Toyne who finished with six saves.

Terrell led the Lady Statesmen with four shots, while Melisa Wink (So., Brookfield, Ill., Lyons Township HS) had three and Erika Larson (Fr., Plain City, Utah, Fremont HS) tallied two.

Katie Burnett (Jr., Mesa, Ariz., Desert Ridge HS) recorded five saves in the loss.
