The Statesmen (2-5-1, 0-2 MCC) have now dropped five games in a row after starting the campaign at 2-0-1.
Clarke (4-2-2, 2-0 MCC) drew first blood Saturday with a goal in the 12th minute, but Penn answered back soon thereafter as
Tim Eyer (Jr., Palos Heights, Ill., Shepard HS) scored on a penalty kick at the 18:15 mark. The goal is Eyer's first of the season.
While the stat sheet showed a tight contest (9-5 advantage in shots for Clarke), the Crusaders took advantage of most of their chances, including scoring once more before the half at the 40:01 point.
Clarke put the game out of reach with two more scores in the 50th and 65th minutes.
If trailing by three goals was not enough, the road to victory became basically impossible to travel as two Penn players were given red cards at the 61:40 and 75:17 marks, putting the team two players down for the final 14:43 of regulation.
The Statesmen did not allow a goal in that span, however, and actually recorded two shots as well.
Matt Saner (Sr., West Plains, Mo., Neosho CC) led the offense with two shots, while
Tadeo Cavazos (Sr., Baytown, Texas, Lee HS) had one save in the matchup.
