Penn finished fourth out of seven teams at the par-72 track. The Statesmen shot a final score of 658 (323-335).
Hannibal-LaGrange (Mo.) held off a second-day charge from Quincy (Ill.) to take home the team crown at 637 (308-329). Quincy claimed the silver at 644 (328-316).
Oliver Armour of Hannibal-LaGrange claimed medalist honors by firing a score of five-over 149 (72-77). His first-round 72 was the lowest score of the tournament as a tough layout combined with Monday's fierce winds made scoring extremely difficult. Only six golfers broke 80 on the second day of competition.
Despite not having a single round in the 70s, Penn still finished in the middle of the pack with solid low-80 performances.
Brent Lurie (Fr., Johannesburg, South Africa, Beaulieu College) led a tight pack of three at the top for the Statesmen as he tied for 12th at 163 (80-83).
Mattias Carlsson (Fr., Uddevalla, Sweden, Agnebergskolan HS) was next in 15th place at 164 (82-82), while
Sebastian Stobart (So., Harare, Zimbabwe, St. Georges College) was one shot behind Carlsson in a tie for 16th at 165 (81-84).
Adriaan de Villiers (Fr., Akasia, South Africa, Akasia HS) was next for the varsity, tying for 22nd at 170 (84-86), while
Cam Armitage (Jr., Delta, B.C., North Delta HS) tied for 28th at 174 (80-94).
Two individuals also competed for Penn as
Geoff Dammann (Fr., Wyoming, Midland HS) tied de Villiers for 22nd at 170 (83-87) and
Seth Vernon (Jr., Knoxville, Knoxville HS) was 39th at 196 (89-107).
Next: Penn travels to La Crosse, Wis. next Sunday and Monday to compete in the Viterbo Ronnie Eastman Invitational at the La Crosse Country Club.
