Penn (4-4-1, 1-1-1 MCC) was outshot by a wide 16-4 margin, but managed to put two of those shots past the Tiger goalkeeper for its first conference win of 2009.
Katie Johnson (Jr., Albia, Indian Hills CC) gave the visitors the initial edge at the 37:21 mark with her first goal in the navy blue and gold.
Iowa Wesleyan (6-4-1, 1-1 MCC) knotted the contest at 1-1 in the 49th minute, but Penn regained the advantage for good when
Brittany Hajicek (So., Grand Prairie, Texas, Mansfield Timberview HS) scored off a pass from
Sophie Duke (Jr., Coventry, England, Warwickshire College) at the 60:04 point.
The goal is Hajicek's team-leading fifth of the campaign, while the assist is Duke's second of 2009.
The Lady Statesmen defense took over from there, fighting off six shots and eight corner kicks by the Tigers over the final 30 minutes.
Hajicek had two shots in the game (both on goal), while Johnson and
Erika Larson (Fr., Plain City, Utah, Fremont HS) added the team's other shots in the victory.
