Rudy Bear scored his first two goals of the year in Saturday's setback
La Crosse, Wis.--With the end of its losing streak in sight, the Penn men hit a major wall in the second half and fell 9-3 to Viterbo (Wis.) in Midwest Collegiate Conference action Saturday.

The afternoon started quite foul for the Statesmen (2-7-1, 0-4 MCC) as the V-Hawks scored in the first minute of action to stake claim to an early 1-0 advantage.

Fortunately, the visitors regrouped and Rudy Bear (Sr., Baytown, Texas, Sterling HS) scored at the 13:20 mark off a pass from Eric Razo (Jr., Joliet, Ill., Joliet CC). It is Razo's second assist of the campaign.

Viterbo (6-5-1, 3-1 MCC) answered right back and led 2-1 at the break.

Penn began the second half with a spark by scoring at the 51:21 and 58:30 marks to recapture the lead at 3-2. The first of the two goals came via Nik Rule (Sr., Idaho Falls, Idaho, Skyline HS) with the assist to Jacob Plocher (Sr., West Plains, Mo., West Plains HS). Rule now leads the team with seven goals, while the assist is Plocher's third of 2009.

Bear recorded his second goal of the day and of the season in the 59th minute, putting home a ball off a corner kick.

Then, without warning, the wheels fell off as Viterbo, who outshot the Statesmen 22-6, took control and scored seven unanswered goals, including three in the final ten minutes of play.

Rule led his team with four shots, while Bear tallied the squad's other two shots.

Next: Penn returns to Oskaloosa Tuesday to face Avila (Mo.) in non-conference action at 5 p.m.
