La Crosse, Wis.--The Penn men's golf team battled chilly temperatures and a difficult course in southwestern Wisconsin at the Viterbo Ronnie Eastman Invitational Sunday and Monday.

Penn finished seventh out of 14 teams at the par-72 La Crosse Country Club with a final score of 643 (327-316).

Wisconsin-Eau Claire, who received national votes in NCAA Division III last year, won the team crown with a tally of 591 (286-305), while host Viterbo was runner-up at 600 (305-295).

Derrick Meier of Viterbo claimed the medalist honor with an even par score of 144 (72-72), edging Dusty Drenth of St. Ambrose by one stroke (70-75--145).

Mattias Carlsson (Fr., Uddevalla, Sweden, Agnebergskolan HS) topped all Statesmen linksters by placing 13th overall (78 total players) with a score of 151 (77-74).

Sebastian Stobart (So., Harare, Zimbabwe, St. Georges College) was next in a tie for 35th at 164 (88-76), while Adriaan de Villiers (Fr., Akasia, South Africa, Akasia HS) was right behind him in a tie for 40th at 165 (83-82).

Brent Lurie (Fr., Johannesburg, South Africa, Beaulieu College), in a tie of 49th at 168 (84-84), and Geoff Dammann (Fr., Wyoming, Midland HS), in a tie for 54th at 170 (83-87), rounded out Penn's scoring.

Next: Penn returns to Oskaloosa for its final tournament of the fall, hosting the Statesmen Classic next Monday and Tuesday at Oskaloosa Golf Course.
