Forest City--A team effort resulted in a 3-1 victory for the Penn men's soccer team over Waldorf in Midwest Collegiate Conference play Saturday.

The Statesmen (4-7-1, 2-4 MCC) have now sandwiched their losing streak with a perfect 2-0-1 start to the fall and back-to-back wins this week.

Jamie Gibbons (Sr., West Des Moines, Iowa Western CC) gave Penn the first lead, a lead it would not relinquish, at the 25:59 mark off a pass from Jacob Plocher (Sr., West Plains, Mo., West Plains HS).

The goal is the Gibbons' second of the season and the assist is Plocher's team-leading sixth.

Penn took that lead into the second half and then extended the edge to 2-0 at the 67:35 mark on a Nik Rule (Sr., Idaho Falls, Idaho, Skyline HS) goal assisted by Steve Olson (So., Cedar Rapids, Linn-Mar HS). Rule now leads the squad with nine goals, while Olson notched his first assist of 2009.

Plocher added an insurance goal in the 74th minute. The senior's second goal of the campaign was assisted by Rule (his fifth this year).

Nine different players recorded a shot for the Statesmen, headlined by three apiece via Gibbons, Rule, Tim Eyer (Jr., Palos Heights, Ill., Shepard HS) and Jacob Fairchild (Fr., Beaumont, Texas, West Brook HS).

Tadeo Cavazos (Sr., Baytown, Texas, Lee HS) tallied four saves to collect the win.
