Oskaloosa--Nik Rule (Sr., Idaho Falls, Idaho, Skyline HS) scored for the 13th and 14th time this year in a 2-0 Penn shutout of Mount Mercy in Midwest Collegiate Conference action Saturday.

The Statesmen (7-8-1, 3-5 MCC) needed more than half of the first stanza to break their scoreless tie with the Mustangs as Rule scored off a pass from Tim Eyer (Jr., Palos Heights, Ill., Shepard HS) at the 24:15 mark. The assist is Eyer's first of 2009.

Penn, despite being outshot 21-16, put the game out of reach on Rule's second goal of the day, an unassisted score in the 69th minute. The senior, who tallied eight shots in the contest, eclipsed his personal single-season mark of 13 goals in 2006.

Matt Saner (Sr., West Plains, Mo., Neosho CC) and Jamie Gibbons (Sr., West Des Moines, Iowa Western CC) both had two shots each to contribute offensively.

Tadeo Cavazos (Sr., Baytown, Texas, Lee HS) posted 13 saves for the shutout, his fourth of the campaign and 14th of his career.

Next: Penn will enter the MCC Tournament as the #7 seed and must wait to see who it will face on the road in the quarterfinal round next Sunday.
