Dubuque--The 2009 Lady Statesmen soccer campaign ended without any treats on Halloween as #7 seed Penn fell 3-0 to #2 seed Clarke in the first round of the Midwest Collegiate Conference Tournament Saturday.

In a game void of really any offense, the Lady Statesmen (7-10-1) had just one shot, taken by reserve player Katie Johnson (Jr., Albia, Indian Hills CC) in the second stanza. The host Crusaders did not fare much better with just four shots of their own.

Penn did not help its cause as it fell into a 1-0 hole by allowing an own goal at the 19:40 mark. Clarke tacked on another score shortly thereafter to lead 2-0 at the break.

The Crusaders put the contest out of reach with another goal in the 61st minute. Clarke now advances to the semifinal round next Saturday against the winner of the Grand View/Waldorf game.

The loss ends the collegiate careers of the team's three seniors: Erin Dickey (Sr., Collinsville, Ill., Southwestern Ill. CC), Kristen Dolen (Sr., Independence, Mo., William Chrisman HS), and Sarah Stone (Sr., Olympia, Wash., Capital HS).
