Oskaloosa--The Statesmen and Lady Statesmen harriers came up short in their attempts to bring home league hardware or qualify for nationals as Penn competed at the Midwest Collegiate Conference Cross Country Championships Saturday.

The Statesmen placed sixth out of seven teams with 150 points as St. Ambrose won its fourth-straight MCC title with 29 points. John Darmody of St. Ambrose won the 8K race in a time of 25:50 to earn MCC Harrier of the Year honors.

The Lady Statesmen finished seventh out of eight teams with 187 points as Mount Mercy also took home its fourth league crown in a row with 34 points. Obsie Birru of Grand View won her second Harrier of the Year award in a row with a time of 18:25 in the 5K race.

Brandon Nicholson (Fr., Cedar Falls, Cedar Falls HS) was Penn's top finisher on the men's side as he placed 11th overall (68 runners) in a time of 28:03. He was the sixth non-St. Ambrose runner to cross the finish line, unfortunately leaving him one spot from qualifying for nationals as the top five non-championship team runners advanced.

Jordan Letzring (Jr., Alta, Alta HS) was next in 21st place in a time of 28:51, while Donovan DeVore (So., Wilton, Wilton HS) finished 40th overall in a time of 30:53.

Josh Roudabush (Jr., Brooklyn, BGM HS) placed 54th in a time of 32:29 and Zack Schrock (So., Urbandale, Colfax-Mingo HS) was 63rd in a time of 35:29 to conclude the team's scoring.

Michael Pilcher (Fr., Eddyville, Eddyville-Blakesburg HS), who was 66th in a time of 38:08, also competed but did not figure into Penn's team score.

Melisa Wink (So., Brookfield, Ill., Lyons Township HS) topped the Penn women as she placed 43rd overall (72 runners) in a time of 23:50.

Katie Burnett (Jr., Mesa, Ariz., Arizona) was next in 45th place in a time of 24:01, while Erin Dickey (Sr., Collinsville, Ill., Southwestern Ill. CC) placed 57th in a time of 25:25.

Jessica Bixler (Jr., Oskaloosa, Oskaloosa HS), in 59th place in a time of 25:36, and Katie Miller (Sr., Norwalk, Norwalk HS), in 69th place in a time of 31:44, rounded out the team's scoring.

The meet is the final collegiate cross country competition for Dickey and Miller.
