The Statesmen placed sixth out of seven teams with 150 points as St. Ambrose won its fourth-straight MCC title with 29 points. John Darmody of St. Ambrose won the 8K race in a time of 25:50 to earn MCC Harrier of the Year honors.
The Lady Statesmen finished seventh out of eight teams with 187 points as Mount Mercy also took home its fourth league crown in a row with 34 points. Obsie Birru of Grand View won her second Harrier of the Year award in a row with a time of 18:25 in the 5K race.
Brandon Nicholson (Fr., Cedar Falls, Cedar Falls HS) was Penn's top finisher on the men's side as he placed 11th overall (68 runners) in a time of 28:03. He was the sixth non-St. Ambrose runner to cross the finish line, unfortunately leaving him one spot from qualifying for nationals as the top five non-championship team runners advanced.
Jordan Letzring (Jr., Alta, Alta HS) was next in 21st place in a time of 28:51, while
Donovan DeVore (So., Wilton, Wilton HS) finished 40th overall in a time of 30:53.
Josh Roudabush (Jr., Brooklyn, BGM HS) placed 54th in a time of 32:29 and
Zack Schrock (So., Urbandale, Colfax-Mingo HS) was 63rd in a time of 35:29 to conclude the team's scoring.
Michael Pilcher (Fr., Eddyville, Eddyville-Blakesburg HS), who was 66th in a time of 38:08, also competed but did not figure into Penn's team score.
Melisa Wink (So., Brookfield, Ill., Lyons Township HS) topped the Penn women as she placed 43rd overall (72 runners) in a time of 23:50.
Katie Burnett (Jr., Mesa, Ariz., Arizona) was next in 45th place in a time of 24:01, while
Erin Dickey (Sr., Collinsville, Ill., Southwestern Ill. CC) placed 57th in a time of 25:25.
Jessica Bixler (Jr., Oskaloosa, Oskaloosa HS), in 59th place in a time of 25:36, and
Katie Miller (Sr., Norwalk, Norwalk HS), in 69th place in a time of 31:44, rounded out the team's scoring.
The meet is the final collegiate cross country competition for Dickey and Miller.
