Karl Spain (Jr., Lafayette, La., Comeaux HS) had the highest placing by finishing sixth at 197 pounds with a 3-3 record. The junior lost his opening match to the top seed, but then posted three straight wins prior to back-to-back losses to end the day.
Chris Diaz (So., Montrose, Colo., Olathe HS) paced the Statesmen in wins with a 4-2 record at 174 pounds. The sophomore, who placed seventh overall, won one match via fall, one by technical fall, and by one major decision.
Levi Davidshofer (So., New Market, Clarinda HS) also placed, taking eighth at 157 pounds with a 3-3 record. His final win came via fall.
125-pounders
Matt Chustz (Sr., Manassas Park, Va., Manassas Park HS) and
Taylor Louie (Jr., West Covina, Calif., West Covina HS) and 133-pounder
David Crow (Jr., Baumholder, Germany, Baumholder HS) also all won one match each at the Invitational.
