Steven Thomson led the Statesmen with a 3.687 GPA in sports administration
Oskaloosa--Two Penn football players were honored for their excellence in the classroom as they were named 2009 Daktronics-NAIA Football Scholar-Athletes.
Steven Thomson (Sr., Jewell, South Hamilton HS) has a 3.687 Grade Point Average in sports administration, while
Jared Barthelman (Sr., Kalona, Mid-Prairie HS) owns a 3.597 GPA in education.
The NAIA announced that 212 football players were awarded the laurel.
To be eligible for the award, athletes must be of at least junior academic standing, maintain a cumulative grade point average of 3.5 or above on a 4.0 scale, and have attended the nominating institution for at least one full academic year.
