Oskaloosa--As part of the NAIA's Champions of Character initiative, several members of the William Penn men's golf team volunteered their time by ringing bells for the Salvation Army earlier this month.
Team members rang bells from 3-6 p.m. on both December 3 and December 7 in front of the Oskaloosa Wal-Mart. The squad raised a total of $72.36 in donations. It was the fourth year that the program volunteered for the Christmas Kettle Campaign.
All of the money raised from the campaign will remain in Mahaska County to those who have suffered tragedies, as well as children and families in need.
"It was a tough economic year for so many people throughout the world, especially here in Mahaska County," Statesmen Head Coach
Wade Steinlage said. "I love when we perform any type of service project. This is not the warmest activity we can do, but it's for a great cause and it is the least we can do."
The team plans to perform another community service project in the spring as well.
