No team points were kept as Penn had six competitors placed in the top four, but the headlining story was Crow's championship at 133 pounds. With only five wrestlers in his bracket, the coaches decided to play out the weight, as well as three other weights (149, 157, 197), in Round Robin format.
The junior won all four of his matches, including one by fall and two via injury default.
125-pounder
Taylor Louie (Jr., West Covina, Calif., West Covina HS) and heavyweight
Ryan Groom (So., Oskaloosa, Oskaloosa HS) placed very high as well, taking home runner-up honors with identical 2-1 records. Groom claimed a fall on the day.
Third-place finishes were earned by
Dustin Howa (Sr., Price, Utah, Carbon HS) at 141 pounds and
Chris Diaz (So., Montrose, Colo., Olathe HS) at 165 pounds as both ended the day with 3-1 marks. Diaz pinned two of his foes, while Howa had a fall and major decision.
Matt Chustz (Sr., Manassas Park, Va., Manassas Park HS) doubled up Penn's success at 125 pounds, going 2-1 to place fourth.
