Oskaloosa--The Statesmen football squad goes into its spring season as one of the better teams in the nation as the NAIA's Preseason Poll which was released yesterday.
Penn, who was 7-5 this past fall (5-2 MWL), is ranked 30th in the division with one vote. The team opened the 2009 campaign 32nd in the preseason poll and received votes four times during the regular season.
Two-time defending national champion Sioux Falls (S.D.) tops the NAIA's poll with 418 points and all 18 first-place votes. Lindenwood (Mo.) is second, while Carroll (Mont.), Saint Xavier (Ill.), and Morningside round out the top five.
McKendree (Ill.) leads the Midwest League at #9, while Grand View is #21. Morningside is the top Iowa program at #5, while Northwestern is 25th.
