Burnett, a two-time NAIA All-American (2009 indoor and outdoor), will walk against some of the best athletes in the nation at the indoor event held at Madison Square Garden in New York City.
The junior is one of 14 athletes who will compete in the one-mile walk, including last year's champion and meet record-holder Rachel Lavellee-Seaman, who won the 2009 event in a time of 6:47.45.
All of the entrants have walked the equivalent of 7:41, or better, for the mile. In her only competition of this indoor season, Burnett finished the 3,000-meter event at December's Iowa State Holiday Classic in a time of 17:16.47.
Burnett placed fifth in both the 2009 indoor (15:58.16) and outdoor (15:45.23) NAIA Track and Field Championships.
"We are excited that Katie has earned the chance to compete with the best race walkers in the nation at the Millrose Games," Penn Track and Field Coach
Wayne Stacy said. "This is truly a wonderful opportunity for Katie to compete on a national stage and it should be another step in Katie's quest to become part of the U.S. National Team."
