Sioux City--A three-match winning streak was not enough to lift the Penn wrestling team over #18 Morningside in a 36-12 loss in dual meet action Friday.

In a meet that began with the 174-pound match, the Statesmen (0-4) dug themselves a huge 17-0 hole with three straight setbacks.

Heavyweight Ryan Groom (So., Oskaloosa, Oskaloosa HS) finally got his team on the board by pinning Alex Will in a time of 2:04.

Penn continued that momentum into the next two matches as Matt Chustz (Sr., Manassas Park, Va., Manassas Park HS) defeated Cody Dennis 9-5 in overtime at 125 pounds and David Crow (Jr., Baumholder, Germany, Baumholder HS) beat Jake McManigal 11-5 at 133 pounds. The run cut the deficit to 17-12.

Unfortunately, the remainder of the night belonged to the host Mustangs (5-1-1) who won the final four matches.

Next: Penn returns home to host Missouri Valley next Friday in a dual at 6 p.m.
