Raven House added nine points off the bench in the win
Oskaloosa--The Penn women's basketball team put themselves in a position to contend for the league title in the second half of the season after defeating Viterbo (Wis.) 62-34 in Midwest Collegiate Conference play Saturday.

The Lady Statesmen (13-9, 5-3 MCC) led from opening tip to the final buzzer as the home team held the V-Hawks to just 28.9% from the field and 28 turnovers. Penn is tied for fourth in the MCC with Mount Mercy, who it defeated last weekend. The Lady Statesmen are two games back of league-leading Iowa Wesleyan (7-1 MCC).

Penn led 29-12 at the break and continued to pull away in the second stanza to eventually lead by as much as 31 with 6:05 left in regulation.

Christa Subbert (Jr., Stanton, Stanton HS) led all players with 16 points, while Samantha Darley (Jr., Gilbert, Ariz., Mesa HS) also reached double figures with 11 points.

Raven House (So., New Orleans, La., Cabrini HS) just missed the mark with nine points, while four other players added five points each, including Nancy Chicas (Sr., San Francisco, Calif., San Mateo CC) and Janice Adams (Sr., Chicago, Ill., Austin HS). Chicas also dished out eight assists, while Adams tied Subbert for the squad lead with seven rebounds.

Penn, who shot 37.9% overall, also won the rebounding matchup 45-38. The home squad owned a 23-10 edge in points off turnovers.

Next: Penn remains at home to host Iowa Wesleyan in MCC action Monday at 5:30 p.m.
