Woods, who helped Penn to a 7-5 record (5-2 Midwest League), was named to the second team on defense. The MWL Co-Player of the Year was one of 12 players from the Midwest League to be honored and one of four on the first or second team.
The All-American award is the 29th in the history of William Penn football.
The junior defensive end led the entire Mid-States Football Association with 27 tackles for loss and was third with 9.5 quarterback sacks. He finished 2009 with 74 tackles, which was good for second on the Statesmen squad. He also had a team-best three forced fumbles, one fumble recovery, and one pass breakup.
Byron Gettis, tight end from McKendree (Ill.), who Woods shared the MWL Player of the Year honor with, was the lone player from the league to reach the top squad.
Quarterback Lorenzo Brown of Sioux Falls (S.D.) was named Offensive Player of the Year, while his teammate, defensive back Trevor Holleman, earned Defensive Player of the Year laurels.
Brian Ward of McPherson (Kan.) received the Coach of the Year award, while Sioux Falls Defensive Coordinator Chuck Morrell won his second-straight Assistant Coach of the Year honor.
