Penn (13-10, 5-4 MCC) played one of its best halves of the year to keep the Tigers close early, trailing just 33-29 at the break.
The Lady Statesmen continued the pressure in the early minutes of the second stanza, going on an 11-5 run to lead 40-38 with 16:19 remaining.
Unfortunately, the home team gave up five unanswered points and were never closer than two points again. Iowa Wesleyan (15-7, 8-1 MCC), who won the shooting battle 51.9%-36.2%, quickly extended the advantage to double digits and coasted to victory.
Christa Subbert (Jr., Stanton, Stanton HS) and
Samantha Darley (Jr., Gilbert, Ariz., Mesa HS) led Penn with 15 points each, while
Carleigh Hobson (Jr., Lancaster, Calif. Antelope Valley CC) was the next highest scorer with seven points. Subbert also led all participants with three steals, while Darley's performance was keyed on a 3-3 showing from behind the arc.
Janice Adams (Sr., Chicago, Ill., Austin HS) added six points and a game-best three blocks on the night.
Nancy Chicas (Sr., San Francisco, Calif., San Mateo CC) dished out a contest-high seven assists. Penn won the blocked shots (3-0) and steals (12-5) categories.
