St. Charles, Mo.--Highlighted by three individuals in the top 12, the Penn men's bowling team finished high at the Lions Classic hosted by Lindenwood Saturday and Sunday.

As a team, Penn placed fifth out of 15 teams with 8,312 pins in six regular games and 12 Baker games.

McKendree's (Ill.) Achmed team took first in the standings with 8,958 pins and also won the bracket tournament, defeating Lindenwood's (Mo.) Simbas squad in the finals. Penn entered as the #5 seed, but finished 1-2 in the bracket.

Sean Rangel (Fr., Omaha, Neb., Bellevue East HS) headed the individual action for the Statesmen by placing fourth with a 209.7 average. He had a top score of 247 in his second game.

James Miller (Jr., Oswego, Ill., Vincennes) also found himself with a top-ten finish, placing ninth with a 201.3 average, headlined by a school-record score of 275 in his first game. The previous record was 260 by Brandon Brooks (Jr., Sigourney, Vincennes) back in December.

Brooks just missed out on the top ten, finishing 12th with a 200.5 average.

Kyle Hammann (So., Knoxville, Knoxville HS) was next with a 185.8 average as the top four Penn bowlers each threw all six games.

Jacob Pauly (Fr., Bellevue, Neb., Bellevue East HS) had a 182.0 average in three games, while Andrew Zaug (Fr., Waverly, Waverly-Shell Rock HS) owned a 173.7 average in three games.

The Gold team was also in action at the Classic, finishing in 15th place.

Aaron Foubert (Fr., What Cheer, Tri-County HS) led the Gold squad with a 170.0 average.

Jared Turner (Fr., Knoxville, Knoxville HS) was next with a 162.0 average in five games, while Emery Songer (Fr., Ottumwa, Ottumwa HS) averaged 166.8 pins in four games.

Jarrod Lindner (Fr., Agency, Cardinal HS) averaged 165.0 pins in four games and Tyler Buckner (Fr., Fontanelle, Nodaway Valley HS) knocked down 163.8 pins per game in four games.

Jason Schmidt (Fr., Harlan, Harlan HS), with a 150.3 average in four games, and Devon Axtell (Fr., Oskaloosa, Oskaloosa HS), with a 146.3 average in three games, rounded out the team's scoring.

Next: Penn travels to Fairview Heights, Ill. to compete in the McKendree Baker Challenge Saturday and Sunday.
