The home team opened strong with three consecutive wins to lead 13-0 after 141 pounds.

Taylor Louie (Jr., West Covina, Calif., West Covina HS) dominated his 125-pound matchup against Venel Rene with a 14-4 major decision victory.

David Crow (Jr., Baumholder, Germany, Baumholder HS) then hung on for a 13-7 decision over Jeff Ohnemus at 133 pounds to put Penn up 7-0.

141-pounder Dustin Howa (Sr., Price, Utah, Carbon HS) concluded the streak with the first of two Statesmen falls, pinning Josh Buckner in just 20 seconds.

Penn (0-6) then dropped the next match via fall and the following two matches by forfeit as Coach Eric Reed chose to move 165-pounder Chris Diaz (So., Montrose, Colo., Olathe HS) up to 174 pounds to set up a better matchup for the Statesmen.

The gamble was successful as Diaz pinned Travis Mundt in a time of 2:45 to give the Statesmen a 19-18 advantage with three weights left.

Reed tried his luck again as he forfeited 184 pounds and moved Jesse Buchanan (Fr., Gilman, East Marshall HS) up a weight to 197 pounds. Unfortunately, Waldorf (3-5) countered by pulling their heavyweight Jeff Roman, who weighed in under 197 pounds, down a weight.

Roman easily dispatched the undersized Buchanan, leaving Penn too big of a deficit to overcome at 29-19.

With no backup available for Roman, the Warriors forfeited to Ryan Groom (So., Oskaloosa, Oskaloosa HS) at 285 pounds to conclude Penn's final dual of the season.

Next: Penn is off until the NAIA Central Qualifying Tournament next Saturday in Oskaloosa. Action begins at 9 a.m. in Penn Gymnasium with the first two consolation rounds in the upper gym.
