In an attempt to gain one more competition before next weekend's nationals,
Gabriel Green (Fr., Anniston, Ala., Anniston HS) competed in two sprints, while
Javaras Thomas (Jr., Miami, Fla., Miami Beach HS) and
Royce Clay (Sr., Miami, Fla., Booker T. Washington HS) jumped in two events.
It is debatable who had the best weekend, but Thomas likely stole the show with some of the best jumps of his life.
The junior won the triple jump event and broke his own school record with an ‘A' national-qualifying mark of 49-6.25. It crushed his old mark of 48-6.25, set in 2007, by an entire foot.
Thomas also competed in the long jump and placed seventh by tying a season best at 22-0.75.
Clay also managed a pair of top-ten finishes. The senior was fourth in the triple with a mark of 43-10.75 and ninth in the long with a mark of 21-9.5.
Green was equally tremendous in the 60 and 200-meter dash competitions. The freshman won the 60 in a ‘B' qualifying time of 6.98, which was also tops for Penn this year.
He then finished second in the 200 with another team season-best and ‘A' time of 22.03 seconds.
Next: Five individuals, including the aforementioned trio, will now travel to Johnson City, Tenn. to compete at the NAIA Indoor Track and Field National Championships from March 4-6.
