Indianapolis, Ind.--Another solid finish locked up a postseason berth for the Penn women's bowling team as the Lady Statesmen concluded their regular season at the Backhaul Direct Hoosier Classic Saturday and Sunday.

As a team, Penn placed 28th out of 41 teams with 7,598 pins in nine regular games. The team's finish qualified the Lady Statesmen for postseason action as Penn finished in the top 64 in collegebowling.com's official rankings.

Penn, who is ranked 51st nationally, will now compete in one of the four sectional tournaments of the 2010 USBC Intercollegiate Team Championships. The Lady Statesmen drew the closest sectional, traveling to Peoria, Ill. on March 13-14 for the tournament at Landmark Lanes.

Central Florida took first in the standings with 8,891 pins and then defeated runner-up Webber International (Fla.) 3-1 in the finals of the bracket tournament.

Britney Cherry (Fr., South Beloit, Ill., Plainfield HS) paced the Lady Statesmen with a 39th-place finish out of 260 bowlers, owning a 183.0 average in nine games.

Breanne Underwood (Jr., Treynor, Treynor HS), in 52nd with a 179.0 average, and Samantha Powell (Fr., Herriman, Utah, Bingham HS), in 89th with a 168.6 average, also finished in the top 100 and bowled all nine games.

Jennifer Smith (Fr., Oskaloosa, Derby Kan. HS) tallied a 161.7 average in seven games, while Amanda Edenholm (Fr., Marysville, Wash., Marysville-Pilchuck HS) averaged 155.3 pins, also in seven games.

Leah Early (Fr., Cedar Rapids, Jefferson HS) concluded the team's scoring with a 151.0 average in four games bowled.

During the sectional weekend, there will also be an individual sectional tournament open to all bowlers. At this time, Penn is planning to send Underwood, Powell, Sarah Randles (Fr., Las Vegas, Nev., Shadow Ridge HS), and Jordan Duver (Fr., Indianola, Indianola HS).
