Davenport--The Lady Statesmen basketball team could not snap its losing streak to St. Ambrose as its season ended with a 76-49 loss in the Midwest Collegiate Conference Tournament Quarterfinals Thursday.

#5 seed Penn (17-14), who has lost eight in a row to the #4 seed Queen Bees (24-7), never led during the game and watched as the home team sprinted out to a big lead and never looked back. St. Ambrose will now travel to Mount Pleasant to face top-seeded Iowa Wesleyan in Saturday's semifinals. #2 seed Grand View will host #3 seed Mount Mercy in Des Moines in the other semifinal.

The Lady Statesmen trailed 32-20 at the break, but came out of the locker room strong with five unanswered to pull within seven points. They would get no closer, however, as the Queen Bees eventually led by 30 and cruised to the win.

Christa Subbert (Jr., Stanton, Stanton HS) had a bit of an off night from the field (5-of-16), but still led Penn with 16 points, including three three-pointers. She will enter her senior campaign ranked eighth on the program's all-time scoring list with 1,471 points after passing Renee Raub (1975-1978) and her 1,467 points.

Nancy Chicas
(Sr., San Francisco, Calif., San Mateo CC), one of three seniors that played their final collegiate game Thursday, also reached double figures with 11 points. She also paced the Lady Statesmen with three assists and three steals.

Ashton Perez (Jr., Wildomar, Calif., Riverside CC), with seven points and a squad-best four rebounds, and Rachel Butler (Jr., Anaheim, Calif., Cerritos CC), with six points, contributed offensively as well.

Samantha Darley (Jr., Gilbert, Ariz., Mesa HS) had just four points in the loss, but blocked a team-best two shots.

Penn lost the shooting battle 42.9%-38.5%, but made ten more free throws than its host (15-5).

The loss ends the collegiate careers of Chicas, Melissa Johnson (Sr., Smithfield, Utah, Skyview HS), and Chandra Melaragno (Sr., Hartville, Ohio, Marlington HS). Chicas concludes her days in the navy blue and gold ranked tenth all-time in program history with 163 assists.
