Oskaloosa--Five Penn track and field athletes will look to bring home national gold as they compete at the 45th Annual Men's and 30th Annual Women's NAIA Indoor Track & Field National Championships.

The Championships will be held Thursday through Saturday at Memorial Center "Mini Dome" in Johnson City, Tenn.

Defending All-American Katie Burnett (Jr., Mesa, Ariz., Arizona) will lead the crew as she seeks to improve on her fifth-place finish in the 3,000-meter race walk from last season's indoor meet. Burnett enters the race with the 13th-best time in the NAIA with an ‘A' qualifying time of 17:16.47.

The men may not have recent success on their side, but they certainly have more opportunities as four team members compete in the sprints and the jumps.

Headlining the group is Javaras Thomas (Jr., Miami, Fla., Miami Beach HS), who is ranked second in the triple jump with a school record and ‘A' mark of 49-6.25. Thomas trails only Dickinson State's Kurt McCormack and his nation-leading mark of 50-2.

Thomas will be joined in the triple by teammate Royce Clay (Sr., Miami, Fla., Booker T. Washington HS), who is 24th in the event with a ‘B' qualifying mark of 46-1.25.

Clay will be competing in two events at the national meet as he is also 24th in the long jump with an ‘A' mark of 23-0.75.

The top two Statesmen sprinters also look to shake things up at nationals as Gabriel Green (Fr., Anniston, Ala., Anniston HS) and Carlos Stepter (Jr., Highland Park, Mich., Highland Park HS) hit the track in both the 60 and 200-meter dash events.

Green leads the duo with the fifth-best time in the 200 with an ‘A' time of 22.03 seconds and the 32nd-best time in the 60 with a ‘B' time of 6.98 seconds.

Stepter is 31st overall in the 200 with a ‘B' time of 22.42 seconds and is 40th in the 60 in a ‘B' time of 7.00 seconds.
