Oskaloosa--A solid showing in three winter sports helped William Penn make an impressive entrance as the final winter 2009-2010 NAIA Learfield Sports Directors' Cup Standings were released.

Penn earned 139 points during the winter to currently sit 61st in the division. A total of 172 NAIA institutions are currently in the standings, while 290 schools comprise the division.

The Statesmen wrestling team earned 53 points for its 21st-place showing, while the Lady Statesmen indoor track and field squad, courtesy of a runner-up showing by race walker Katie Burnett (Jr., Mesa, Ariz., Arizona), posted 52.5 points for finishing 19th as a team.

The Statesmen indoor track and field team, led by a fourth-place triple jump finish by Javaras Thomas (Jr., Miami, Fla., Miami Beach HS), added 33.5 points as it was 38th at nationals.

Five-time defending Cup champion Azusa Pacific (Calif.) leads the NAIA standings with 663 points. The Cougars pulled ahead by finishing in the top ten in five different winter sports, including claiming the men's indoor track and field title.

Simon Fraser (B.C.) is second with 583.5 points, while Biola (Calif.) is third with 521.33 points. Lindenwood (Mo.) is fourth with 514 points and Fresno Pacific (Calif.) rounds out the top five with 485 points.

Penn ranks second among Midwest Collegiate Conference institutions, while Grand View heads the group in a tie for 23rd place with 277 points.

Fellow MCC programs St. Ambrose (91st, 88 points), Iowa Wesleyan (T-109th, 70 points), Waldorf (T-127th, 50 points), Ashford (T-148th, 25 points), and Mount Mercy (T-170th, 18 points) have also scored points.

The Learfield Sports Directors' Cup was developed as a joint effort between the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA) and USA Today. Points are awarded based on each institution's finish in up to 12 sports--six men's and women's.
