Rhodes--A better closing day helped the Penn men's golf team move up the leaderboard a bit as it competed at the Grand View Viking Spring Classic Monday and Tuesday.

The Statesmen took ninth out of 13 squads with a two-day tally of 635 (327-308) at The Harvester Golf Course, a par-72, 6,800-yard course. Three squads failed to post four scores on Day Two, thus unable to stay in the team race after the first day.

#11 nationally-ranked Grand View won its own tournament with a score of 579 (296-283), while Iowa Western CC was second at 590 (299-291).

Jacob Aaholm of Iowa State (playing as an individual) won the individual crown with a score of six-under 138 (67-71).

Seb Stobart (So., Harare, Zimbabwe, St. Georges College) and Geoff Dammann (Fr., Wyoming, Midland HS) tied for Penn's lowest score as they were both 36th with a final tally of 158. Stobart shot 77-81, while Dammann reversed that with 81-77.

Mattias Carlsson (Fr., Uddevalla, Sweden, Agnebergskolan HS) was one shot behind the pair at 159 (85-74) to tie for 38th, while Seth Vernon (Jr., Knoxville, Knoxville HS) was another shot back of him at 160 (84-76) to tie for 44th.

Cam Armitage (Jr., Delta, B.C., North Delta HS) only played the first day, carding a 91.

Penn also sent two individuals into action. Brent Lurie (Fr., Johannesburg, South Africa, Beaulieu College) actually topped all Statesmen at the tournament, tying for 16th with a score of 149 (76-73), while Adriaan de Villiers (Fr., Akasia, South Africa, Akasia HS) was 56th at 166 (86-80).
