Tyanna Helton hit .529 with three home runs last week
Oskaloosa--Tyanna Helton (Sr., Santa Rosa, Calif, Palomar CC) was instrumental in helping the Lady Statesmen softball team to a big week and for her efforts she was named Midwest Collegiate Conference Softball Player of the Week announced by the league office Monday.

Helton collected her first league honor of 2010 (fifth of her career) as the Lady Statesmen (35-10, 11-5 MCC) went 5-1 last week.

The senior owned a .529 batting average (9-for-17) two doubles and three home runs. She tallied eight runs and four RBIs and was also walked six times.

Her week was highlighted by a 3-for-4 showing against Waldorf Wednesday with one home run, one walk, two RBIs, and three runs scored.

For the year, Helton is hitting .500 (65-for-13) with 18 doubles and ten home runs. She has scored 38 runs and drove in 46 and owns an .869 slugging percentage and a .576 on-base clip.

The weekly award is the second for the softball program this spring.
