Moline, Ill.--The Penn softball team won two crucial Midwest Collegiate Conference contests in Saturday's second MCC Challenge Weekend.

The Lady Statesmen (38-11, 14-6 MCC) defeated St. Ambrose and Waldorf by identical 7-2 scores. Sunday's games were cancelled due to weather.

Penn scored quickly against the Queen Bees (16-16, 11-8 MCC) as Krystina Lorah (Jr., Moreno Valley, Calif., Moreno Valley HS) hit a two-run home run in the first inning.

The squad added four more in the fifth, highlighted by another two-run shot, this time by Leah Mork (Sr., DeWitt, North Iowa Area CC), and a two-run single by Lorah.

Molly Miller (Fr., Kalona, Mid-Prairie HS) brought in the final run, singling home pinchrunner Amie Dorn (So., Mount Pleasant, Mount Pleasant HS) in the seventh.

Lorah and Miller paced the effort with identical 2-for-4 showings. Lorah drove in four runs, while Mork had two RBIs. Seven different Lady Statesmen scored one run apiece. Penn outhit St. Ambrose 9-6.

Hannah Lugar (So., Kalona, Mid-Prairie HS) improved to 18-5 with the win, allowing two runs (both earned) on six hits. The sophomore struck out two with one walk.

Penn jumped out to another sizeable lead against Waldorf (13-20, 12-9 MCC) and cruised to victory.

The Lady Statesmen's five-run second inning was headlined by a two-run double by Khyia Lewis (So., Ottumwa, Ottumwa HS), while Miller, Tyanna Helton (Sr., Santa Rosa, Calif., Palomar CC), and Kara Atkins (So., Burlington, Burlington HS) all had RBI singles as well.

Two more runs were added to the scoreboard in the fourth when Lorah again cleared the fence for her seventh dinger of the season.

Lewis, Lorah, and Atkins all concluded the contest 2-for-3, while Lewis and Lorah tallied a team-best two RBIs. Once again it was a team effort as seven different players scored one run each. The Lady Statesmen held a 10-6 edge in hits versus the Warriors.
