Des Moines--A trio of Penn track and field athletes opened up the Midwest Collegiate Conference Outdoor Championships with the inaugural multi-events competitions at Williams Stadium Friday and Saturday.

(Jr., Mesa, Ariz., Arizona) and Jessica Bixler (Jr., Oskaloosa, Oskaloosa HS) participated in the women's heptathlon, while Tanner Voss (So., Eddyville, Eddyville-Blakesburg HS) competed in the men's decathlon.

Burnett placed seventh out of 16 athletes with 3,404 points to score two points for Penn, while Rachel Luehrs of St. Ambrose won the seven-event competition with 3,885 points.

The junior scored at least 490 points in five events, including a best of 565 points to lead all the participants in the javelin throw (113-8). She also led the field in the shot put (34-0, 553 points).

Burnett's other times/marks included: 18.96 seconds in the 100-meter hurdles (394 points), 4-8.75 in the high jump (555 points), 31.95 seconds in the 200-meter dash (355 points), 15-6.75 in the long jump (490 points), and 2:47.32 in the 800-meter run (492 points).

Bixler finished 13th in the heptathlon with a best of 582 points in the 200-meter dash (28.63 seconds). She surpassed the 400-point mark in two other events as well, including the long jump (15-5, 479 points) and the 800-meter run (2:49.55, 468 points).

The sophomore's other times/marks included: 18.96 seconds in the 100-meter hurdles (394 points), 4-2.75 in the high jump (399 points), 20-5.75 in the shot put (287 points), and 55-9 in the javelin (233 points).

Vos placed tenth out of 11 athletes with 4,299 points, while Matt Smalley of Grand View won the ten-event title with 5,620 points.

The sophomore scored over 500 points in three events, including 12.30 seconds in the 100-meter dash (593 points), 34-0.75 in the shot put (508 points), and 1:06.68 in the 400-meter dash (533 points).

On Day One, Vos also scored 441 points in the long jump (17-4.75) and 434 points in the high jump (5-1.25). On the second day, he had marks/times of: 18.61 seconds in the 110-meter hurdles (467 points), 77-4 in the discus (340 points), 8-6.25 in the pole vault (264 points), 107-7 in the javelin (339 points), and 5:34.01 in the 1,500-meter run (380 points).

Next: The MCC Championships will continue Thursday and Friday in Des Moines.
