Oskaloosa--William Penn University women's basketball coach
Brian Spielbauer has announced the signings of four individuals to letters of intent to attend the University in the fall and compete for the women's basketball program.
A 5-7 point guard, Madison Amundson, the daughter of Robert and Brenda Amundson, is a native of Park, Colo. and will come to Penn from Ponderosa HS.
"Madison is a good point guard that had a great visit," Spielbauer said. "She is a skilled passer and is going to make a clean jump into college basketball. We are excited to have her at Penn."
Jordan Arguello, the daughter of Ovid Arguello and Deborah Duran, is a native of Longmont, Colo. and will come to Penn from Longmont HS. A 5-9 guard, she averaged six points for her high school team, which finished second in Colorado's Class 4A State Tournament.
"Jordan is a great signing for us," Spielbauer said. "She is a good player and has a bright future in our program."
Leilani Tuani-Fifita, the daughter of Pasa and Laurie Tuani-Fifita, is a native of Kapolei, Hawaii and will come to Penn from Kapolei HS.
A 6-1 center, Tuani-Fifita averaged 12 points per game in leading her team to the Hawaii State Tournament. An Honorable-Mention All-State performer, she was also Athlete of the Year at Kapolei HS.
"Leilani has good post moves and can play the four or the five position," Spielbauer said. "She is very athletic for her size and we are pleased with her decision to attend William Penn."
A 5-10 small forward, Shaulanda Benally, the daughter of Robert and Sally Benally, is a native of Phoenix, Ariz. and will come to Penn from South Mountain CC.
"Shaulanda is a scorer," Spielbauer said. "She can shoot the three and the lay-up and everything in between. We are happy to have her; she will provide some very good competition this fall."
"We have signed a very deep and talented group of players that will be producing for our program for years to come," Spielbauer added. "We couldn't be more excited about where we are at and where this program is going. This fall will be extremely competitive and this season looks to be better than last, and possibly the best in many years."
Penn finished the 2009-2010 season at 17-14 overall (9-7 MCC). The 17 wins were the most for the program since the 1989-1990 season. It was also the first winning season for the team since 1993-1994.
