Oskaloosa--William Penn University baseball coach
Mike Laird has announced the signing of Garrett Luckett to a letter of intent to attend the University in the fall and compete for the baseball program.
Luckett, a native of Oskaloosa, comes to Penn from Oskaloosa HS.
In four years on the varsity squad, Luckett broke school records for games played (144), runs scored (101), sacrifice hits (16), and walks (73).
This past season, he worked double duty on and off the mound and earned second-team all-conference and all-district laurels. Luckett was 7-5 as an Indian pitcher with 74 strikeouts, good for fourth in Class 4A. He also hit .349 with six home runs, 37 RBIs, 36 runs scored, 21 walks, and 14 stolen bases.
"I feel very privileged to finally sign and be able to play college ball, especially at William Penn where it is close to home," Luckett said. "I cannot wait for the season and feel honored to play for Coach Laird."
"I am very happy to have Garrett as part of Statesmen baseball," Laird said. "He has been on my radar as a strong college prospect for some time now. He has very good college potential and I am looking forward to working with him."
Penn, who has won four conference titles in the last seven years, was 25-19 a year ago (14-10 MCC).
