Oskaloosa--William Penn University co-men's golf coach Wade Steinlage has announced the signings of three individuals to National Letters of Intent to attend the University in the fall and compete for the men's golf program.

Evan Thomas, the son of Steve and Karyl Thomas, is a native of Oskaloosa and will come to Penn from Indian Hills CC where he did not compete in golf.

A 2005 graduate of Oskaloosa HS, Thomas was a four-year letterwinner on the golf team. Taking up the game at the age of five, he has competed in numerous tournaments throughout Iowa. Thomas has five career hole-in-ones to his credit.

"Evan is very talented and consistent," Steinlage said. "He posts low score after low score and I am happy to add another talented player from Oskaloosa."

Gibb Whitlatch, the son of Steve and Jodi Hiemstra, is a native of Oskaloosa and will come to Penn from Oskaloosa HS.

A three-year letterwinner, he was the Senior MVP and was a member of one conference championship team. Performing his best in the biggest tournament of the year, Whitlatch led his team at districts as a junior and senior. He was also a two-time all-academic team honoree.

A strong student as well, Whitlatch was an Honor Roll student all four years of high school.

"Gibb is a great kid and will work hard to improve his game," Steinlage said. "He is a good local signing."

Kevin Wynn, the son of Jim and Brenda Wynn, is a native of Albia and will come to Penn from Albia HS.

A two-time Second-Team All-State selection, Wynn placed fifth in this spring's Class 2A state tournament. He earned three first-team all-conference laurels and was district champion as a senior.

"Kevin is one of the better players in this area and will be a strong competitor for us in the future," Steinlage said.

Penn finished fourth at this spring's Midwest Collegiate Conference Championships.
