In what unfortunately resulted in a dual between Penn and Central, the Dutch defeated the Lady Statesmen 737-794. Penn shot a 403 on a very blustery first day and then carded a 391 on Day Two.
Stevens claimed medalist honors with a score of 175 (89-86), three strokes ahead of the nearest competitor. She was the lone individual in the 15-player field to break 90 on both days.
Courtney Kronmuller (So., Fountain Valley, Calif., Fullerton CC) also finished in the top five, taking fifth with a 192 (99-93).
Amanda Paceley (Jr., Higley, Ariz., South Mountain CC) was ninth at 203 (106-97), while
Aubrey Leasure (Jr., St. Peter, Minn., St. Peter HS) was 13th at 224 (109-115).
"We opened this weekend with one of the toughest courses that we will see all year under some unsatisfactory conditions, but all of our ladies battled through," Lady Statesmen Co-Head Coach
Nik Rule said. "We know what we need to work on in the coming weeks and we will make the necessary changes that will produce better results."
Next: Penn is off a week before returning to action at the St. Ambrose Fighting Bee Classic on Saturday and Sunday, September 18-19. The Lady Statesmen play at Glynn's Creek GC in Eldridge Saturday before moving to Emeis GC in Davenport for Sunday's round.
