Wichita, Kan./Ottawa, Kan.--The Penn women's soccer team was unable to find the back of the net in a pair of losses to teams from Kansas.

Penn (0-4) fell 1-0 to Friends Friday and then lost 4-0 to Ottawa Saturday. Both programs are members of the Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference.

The Lady Statesmen gave up an early goal in the tenth minute to the Falcons and the remainder of the game passed by scoreless.

"We started flat and we had a mental letdown on the first goal," Lady Statesmen Head Coach Walter said. "Unfortunately after they scored, we started to play. We had several very good chances to score in the first half and even more chances in the second half, but we could not catch a break to score a goal. We played hard, but it was just not our night. We played well enough to win, but we have to score to win and we did not put the ball in the back of the net."

The next day, Ottawa, a 2009 national tournament qualifier, scored three times in the first half and added another goal very late in the second stanza. The Braves outshot Penn 26-12 with Melisa Wink (Jr., Brookfield, Ill., Lyons Township HS) and Rita Garcia (Jr., Chandler, Ariz., Gateway CC) leading the way for the Lady Statesmen with three shots each.

Aubree Gallego (So., Arlington, Texas, Mansfield Legacy HS) tallied five saves against the four goals allowed.

"Ottawa was a national tournament team a year ago and they are again good enough to get back there this year," Walter said. "We came out a lot better this game, but luck was not on our side. The effort was better and again we had great chances, but we are really struggling to finish."

"We can learn a lot from these last two games," Walter added. "We are definitely not the type of team that should be 0-4. We have several days before our next game and I am confident the ladies will be ready for our next test."
