Despite being outshot 18-4 in the first stanza, Penn (2-2-1) was actually knotted at 1-1 entering the break.
After the Vikings (1-0) broke through in the 31st minute,
Nick Gorrie (Fr., Kilmarnock, Scotland, Grange Academy) tied the contest with his team-leading third goal of the campaign, unassisted at the 31:10 mark.
Still battling in a 1-1 tie 14 minutes after halftime, the floodgates opened up against the home team with Missouri Valley scoring in the 66th, 68th, and 69th minutes. Two more goals in the final ten minutes of competition sealed the deal. Penn was on the wrong side of a 33-7 shot tally.
Daniel Beseau (Fr., Florissant, Mo., Timberland HS) led his team with two shots.
Sam Gurski (Fr., Beaumont, Texas, West Brook HS) did all he could to keep his team in the game and made several nice plays en route to eight saves.
"I thought we played well in the first half, but we made just a couple mistakes," Statesmen Head Coach
Kevin Rushing said. "We unfortunately just completely fell apart in the second half. For some reason that happens sometimes where everything just goes against you. We will work hard to erase our memory of this and get ready for league play this weekend."
