Rock Island, Ill.--The Penn men's cross country team faced the largest field of the year as it competed at the Brissman-Lundeen Invitational hosted by Augustana Friday.

Penn finished 17th out of 26 teams with 486 points. Wisconsin-Stevens Point won easily with 23 points and the meet's top three finishers, including the 8K champion Tim Thornburg and his time of 24:58.

Also competing was four-time defending Midwest Collegiate Conference champion St. Ambrose, who placed 11th with 316 points. The Fighting Bees, headlined by 2009 MCC Harrier of the Year John Darmody, had the league's top two runners at the meet, but not far behind was Penn's own Kipp Schuler (Sr., Haviland, Kan., Dana).

Schuler finished 47th overall (375 runners) with a time of 26:15.  The time is the eighth-fastest in school history in an 8K event and the fastest for the program since Travis Sauer ran a 26:04 in 2003.

Nicholas Reynolds (Jr., Riverton, Utah, Iowa Western CC) just missed being in the top 100 as he placed 111th with a time of 27:03.

Keaton Studebaker (Fr., Ogden, Utah, Weber HS), who made it collegiate debut Friday, took 138th place with a time of 27:25.

Jordan Letzring (Sr., Alta, Alta HS), in 183rd (28:06), and Cameron Pittman (Fr., Carl Junction, Mo., Carl Junction HS), in 308th place (30:52), also figured into Penn's scoring.

Quintin Marshall (Fr., St. Louis, Mo., McCluer South Berkeley HS), in 312th place (30:59), Christian Damerval (Fr., Winfield, Winfield-Mount Union HS), in 339th place (32:53), and Donovan DeVore (Jr., Wilton, Wilton HS), in 344th place (33:18), competed as well.
